RACE ON THE RIVER PROMISES BIG PAYOUTS
Bonus $1000-to-win gambler’s race Friday night
With a large amount of money on the line, drivers competing in the Race on the River will have all the inspiration they need to put the pedal to the metal and run as consistently as they can throughout the weekend of July 18 and 19.
The Big Bucks Bracket Race will run on the 1/8 mile featuring $7500 to the winner, $2000 to the runner up on Saturday. On Sunday, the winner takes home $2500, the runner up pockets $1000.
“It’s not only the racing, but it’s the atmosphere at Cordova International Raceway. It’s just plain fun. The payout is great too,” said local racer, Jeff Weets of Morrison, Illinois.
Many racers say bracket racing evens the playing field. The effect of the bracket racing rules is to place a premium on consistency of performance of the driver and car rather than on raw speed. Two vehicles of varying performance potentials can race on a potentially even basis. Consistency is the name of the game.
“I’m looking forward to a local race with a larger purse. Other races you have to race to break even. It gives you good goals to achieve and it raises the bar and improves your racing. With bracket racing, you have to step up to the plate and bring your A game,” said Weets.
Jace Deering of Clinton, Iowa just won runner-up at the Byron Dragway Big Bucks Race, taking home $1500. He says he’s looking forward to coming out to CIR for the Race on the River. “Money races are important because people like to go to these races and have a good time and try to come home with a big check at the end of the weekend,” explained Deering. “These races are also important because it draws a lot of new people to the track. It’s hard for people to travel unless there is good money being held at the race. It’s nice to see Cordova hold this kind of race.”
The race weekend kicks off on Friday night, July 17, with a guaranteed $1000 to win Gambler’s Race presented by Layne Automotive of Fulton, IL. Owner Anthony Layne, felt it was important to show all of his customers and the CIR racers how much he appreciates them. “We’ve been involved at Cordova before with a quick series, but not all of my customers fall into that category. This is a way of involving lots of different types of racers,” Layne said.
