July Racing Heating Up Like the Weather
With temps well over 100 degrees last weekend, the Race on the River was definitely some hot racing action, no matter how you looked at it! “We were so pleased to be racing last weekend, we didn’t care how hot it was! This was the first weekend in twelve weeks that we’ve gone without measureable rainfall,” said CIR Manager, Bobbi Jo Cox. “I was down in the staging lanes Friday night and everybody was sweating and hot but I said, ‘Hey, at least it’s not raining!’ and the racers totally agreed. It feels really good to get a whole weekend of racing in for the first time in 2015.” The racing action was heated with racers coming from locally and across the Midwest to participate. Mt. Morris, IL Racer Shane Pope was one of the finalists on Sunday with a runner-up finish in the No Box Class. “Overall I thought it was a great program,” Pope said. “I really enjoyed it - the track was prepped well, the pit bike races were funny, and the bonus gamblers race was great. The only hope I have for next year is more cars, but I was glad to see lots of cars supporting the track from around the area.” Local racer, Chrissy Richardson also got in on the racing action. “I thought the Race on the River weekend was 100% spot on. Everything from the entire staff busting their butts in that heat to the track prep. The extra gamblers race at the end, along with the pit vehicles race was just an extra perk. The sponsors throwing in those gifts were great too! I've got no reason to ever have a dirty car with that bucket of cleaning supplies from O’Reilly’s!” Richardson finished.
