All-Star Line-Up Planned for 62nd World Series
For over 60 years, the World Series of Drag Racing has been home to some of the fastest names in drag racing on the planet. From its humble beginnings on the banks of the Mississippi River, stories have been told of the famed Cordova quarter-mile and its place in history with the likes of legendary racers such as Don Garlits, Chris Karamesines, and Arnie Beswick. 60 plus years later and it comes full-circle with Don Garlits acting as the official Grand Marshall of the 2015 World Series. Garlits will have his famed Swamp Rat dragster on hand to display and "cackle" for the crowd.
In addition to Garlits, fans will be treated to four Top Fuel and two Nitro Funny Car entries. Dom Lagana, Clay Millican, Bruce Litton and Jenna Haddock will all represent the Top Fuel side with a Wilkerson vs. Wilkerson Funny Car field. Dad, Tim Wilkerson, will battle his son and Funny Car driver, Dan Wilkerson will for the rights of 2015 World Series
Champion. 43 year racing veteran, Bruce Litton, hopes to run both his Top Fuel dragster and Nostalgia Funny Car at the World Series of Drag Racing. If that happens, it will be the first time in Bruce's career that he runs both cars at the same event! "We've always at had success here," Litton said. "The fans, the staff and the management are always pleasant. The World Series is such a great mixture of modern day and nostalgia cars. Last year celebrating Scott and Laura Gardner's 19 years at Cordova was great. We started pulling the car out on the starting line and Scott was yelling in the radio, 'hey, we haven't called top fuel yet!' All the staff ignored him because they all knew what (the surprise Top Fuel graphic being unveiled) was going on."
If you love nostalgia racing, the DRO Nitro Nostalgia Challenge will be for you! See nitro altereds, dragsters and funny cars battle it out for a huge purse and bragging rights on Friday and Saturday nights. Or, you can check out the Nostalgia Pro Stocks vying for the coveted 2015 World Series Pro Stock Championship. Bob Mayerle, the Rod Shop Dodge owner, has nothing but great things to say about the World Series and its fans. "The World Series is the most prestigious event in the Midwest. The fans are what it's all about – we enjoy having them come in the pits and interact with the drivers and cars."
The weekend only gets better with Jets, Nitro Fuel Altereds, Wheelstanders, Nostalgia Gassers, Nostalgia Super Stocks, Midwest Super Stock Mafia and a special appearance by Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick! Plus stop by the Pro Autograph signing by the O'Reilly Auto Parts Display on Saturday afternoon to meet Bunny Burkett, Bill Orndorff & Jerry Eckman, and many other Pro Drivers.
