Jim's Transmission Takes Home Top Spot at Sponsor Showdown

A blustery fall day was the backdrop for the 2015 Sponsor Showdown at Cordova International Raceway. While the sky showed cloudless and blue, the cool wind brought the temps only into the mid 50's for a daytime high. The cool weather did not discourage teams from appearing for the annual event. Ten teams brought racers out to compete for the coveted traveling trophy. "We were excited to see so many of our regular racers and some new faces that may not normally compete at that event," said Office Manager, Brenda Stuart. The businesses represented on Saturday were:
Auto Rodz - Davenport, IA (2 teams)
Heartland Stock/SS Association -Port Byron, IL
IA Speed & Supply - Otter Creek, IA
               Jim's Transmission - Davenport, IA
John's Tree Service - Camanche, IA
               Klemme Performance - Davenport, IA
Rocket Racing - Waterford, WI (2 teams)
               Weets Septic - Morrison, IL

At the end of the day, Jim's Transmission, overseen by owner Jim Petersen, came out victorious in the team competition edging out the IA Speed & Supply team spearheaded by owner, Bob Siegwarth. Following in a close third was the Weets Septic Team from Morrison. "I really enjoy the chance the Speed Shop Showdown gives us to get together with some of our racing customers and have a little fun. This is always a great time of year when things are winding down a bit, and the weather is cooling off. Drag racers are a pretty close-knit group for the most part, but the team aspect gives an added twist to a sport where it's usually everyone for themselves on the track," said Siegwarth. The final round of competition pitted Jeff Freeman, Jr of Jim's Transmission against Myranda Cozad from the IA Speed and Supply team. Freeman beat Cozad off the line with a .015 light to Cozad's .032 - both with breakout runs at the top end of the track. Freeman's dial of 10.96 was slightly exceeded by his 10.918 run to Cozad's 11.297 on an 11.35 dial. Congratulations to all the weekend's winners!
