CHAMPIONS CROWNED THIS WEEKEND AT THE OKTOBERFEST of DRAGRACING
It will be a weekend of titles this Saturday and Sunday as the finals of the Douglas and Frye Motorsports Bracket Series, the Layne Automotive Super 16 Series, and the Ozark Mountain Supershifters Series all crown their 2014 Champions.
All the action starts Friday with our Friday Fun Night, featuring open racing for everyone, plus Trophy and Gamblers, from 6-10.
On Saturday, the Layne Automotive Super 16 Series takes center stage. Scott Marsden has just a 2 round lead over fellow Davenport racer Don Speer headed into the finale. For the bracket racers, there's the $2000 to win Super Bracket Combo featuring the familiar Box / No Box format, the Low Roller Combo for foot-brakers, plus a Junior Dragster All-Run and Trophy.
Then on Sunday, the Douglas and Frye Motorsports Bracket Series will be the main event, along with the finals of the Ozark Mountain Supershifters Series. Three racers are seemingly uncatchable for the title in their respected classes, Tom Klemme in Modified, Seth Bealer in Novice Jr., and Justin Rosenbohm in True Street.
In the remaining three classes, Jimmie Barsema holds a 2 round lead over defending 2013 Top Eliminator and Track Champion Lou Rausch, with Don Cabor only 5 rounds back. In Super ET, defending class champion Jeff Freeman Jr is leading Jeremy Youngblood by only 3 rounds. And in Super Jr, Brennan Weets has an "almost comfortable" 5 round lead over Colton Layne.
Headed into last week's race in Wichita, KS., the OMSS had only 200 points separating 1st through 10th place. As always, it will come down to Sunday's Finale to crown their champion.
The final race of the day will see the 4 class champions (Top Eliminator, Modified, Super ET, and True Street) face each other for the Cordova Dragway Park Track Champion, with the winner receiving the coveted "Gold Card", which entitles the Champion to "free entries" in the 2015 Douglas and Frye Bracket Series.
Gates open Saturday at 9:30 am with racing starting at 11. On Sunday, gates open at 8:30 am with all the action starting at 9:30.
