BlackHawk POCI presents the 26th Annual Buick Olds Pontiac Drag Fun Day
The Cordova Dragway Park race season still has racing and show car excitement left as this weekend (Saturday in particular) is especially for Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac owners. Besides the $1000 to win in the Vintage Mechanical Works sponsored “Quick 16”, there’s cash racing for cars with either slicks or street tires. Racers can also go for a trophy as well.
Any and all brands of cars are welcome to come out for test-n-tune or trophy racing, not just Friday night but Saturday too.
The Heartland Stock/Super Stock Association will be racing on Saturday. For those spectating, these cars put on quite a show! Imagine stock class cars that lift the wheels high and carry them out 60-75 feet with lightning fast runs.
The Blackhawk Chapter of POCI is bringing in none other than Pontiac “Hall of Fame” legend, Arnie “the Farmer” Beswick. There’s talk of a match race similar to what you saw at the 60th anniversary of the World Series with Chris Chenuk and his pro-mod Firebird.
Several of the Nostalgia Super Stockers will be on hand to amaze and delight with low ET’s and often times big wheel stands.
If that’s not enough, John Holmes is bringing Arnie Beswick’s original ’66 “Star of the Circuit” funny car. Last year we saw him take on the ‘65 altered wheelbase Mopar in a ‘best 2 out of 3’. There are rumors of a rematch!
Chris Chenuk is also planning on bringing his recently restored clone of one of Arnie Beswick’s most obscure Pontiac’s, a ’68 Firebird called the “Boss Bird Jr.”
Super clean, original and restored cars show up for the car show side of things with awards going to the best and runner ups in each of the three divisions.
What’s more important is that the weather looks to be great for the whole weekend. Come out and join us on Friday for test and tune, trophy and gambler racing and then the Midwest’s biggest B-O-P event, the 26th annual Drag Racing Fun Day on Saturday.
