It's Back...HangoverFest 2015

15 years ago, Scott Gardner had a vision. Sitting at home on a sunny New Year's Day with not much going on and a little bit of a hangover – the current IHRA president and former Cordova Dragway owner thought to himself, "Today would be the perfect day to race. There's nothing on TV, I've already had too much family time and there's no snow." He came back to the office the next week and put plans into motion for the next year to host the only drag race in the Midwest on New Year's Day, aptly named HangoverFest.

2015 will mark the 14th running of Hangoverfest with its roots firmly planted in street driven vehicles racing down the quarter mile on New Year's Day. "We've had the occasional motorcycle race on New Year's Day, but man, I think it's a little brave for that cold of a ride," said Bobbi Jo Cox, General Manager. "We encourage all kinds of street vehicles – cars, trucks, vans and even motorcycles – to come race. We broom and clean the track for street cars but it would be too tough for race cars to get traction on such a cold racetrack."

Aside from the great racing action that takes place on the track, each person who comes through the front gate is given free aspirin, with the first 300 people getting a free gift as well. "It's great to see everyone so excited about racing in the middle of winter," Brenda Stuart, Office Manager added, "It helps with the cabin fever and the $1 Bloody Marys seem to help with the people who 'overindulged' the night before."

So plan on joining the CIR crew and racing on New Year's Day! Gates open at 11am with test n tune and grudge racing starting at noon. Racing is only $25 to enter, with spectators $10 each, and kids $3. There will be FREE aspirin for everyone and $1 Bloody Marys for all non-racing attendees. The first 300 fans through the gate also get a free gift! For more information, contact Cordova International Raceway at 309-654-2110.
